Where the Mask Ends episode 11 recap: The boiling pot and a new title

In short

Lady Shou'an and Zhou Fu try a bribe, then torture, to force A Chou out of the capital. Lu Zhuo sees through Jun Dai at a glance, rescues his wife and arrives with a decree giving her a noble title.

What happens in episode 11

Lady Shou'an has A Chou brought to her garden at night and, all smiles, suggests she give up the heir's-wife title, marry Huo Jue and go south to trade. A Chou knows that once she leaves the capital, nobody would ask questions if she died.

Zhou Fu, now Zhaoyi, takes over. Her servants slap A Chou twice, then a pot of water is set to boil: leave with Huo Jue or be boiled alive. A Chou refuses both and holds out until dawn.

Lu Zhuo rides in. Zhou Fu sends Jun Dai out as his wife; he knows at once, shakes her off and finds A Chou, her hands badly burned from pushing over the pot, and wraps her in his cloak. When Zhou Fu threatens his family, he produces an imperial decree: after a petition from the capital's people, the Emperor has made A Chou a Wengzhu, a noblewoman of Wu'an. Not even Zhou Fu can stop them leaving.

Lady Shou'an realizes Zhou Fu and Huo Jue meant to kill A Chou once she was out of the city, and tells Zhou Fu that A Chou, in looks and temper, is more like the young Zhou Fu than Jun Dai ever was. Zhou Fu misses the point.

At home, Lu Zhuo redeems the jewelry A Chou pawned. Guo Yufeng forces Bi Tao to spy by holding her family. Refugees come to A Chou for help, and she decides to train the strongest as guards. Then the Empress Dowager summons her.

Why it matters

Lady Shou'an's remark is the clearest hint so far that A Chou is Zhou Fu's real daughter.
