Where the Mask Ends episode 7 recap: The birthday banquet

In short

A Chou's banquet is a triumph, while Han Liao and Huo Jue each try to expose or replace her. That night Lu Zhuo asks her who she really is.

What happens in episode 7

Lu Zhuo publicly credits his wife for a seven-wheel cooling fan. The box everyone expects to be full of butterflies holds fire starters instead, and a tree of 108 lamps lights up for the old Madame.

Han Liao brings Granny Liu, A Chou's former neighbor, to recognize her. A Chou acts insulted and throws him out, then secretly pays Granny Liu with gold beans and a note hidden in a hairpin, telling her what to say when Han Liao questions her.

Huo Jue confronts her, sees through her at once and drugs her. Jun Dai wants to cut her face and swap back in, using the nuo masked-dance troupe. Bi Tao gets Qi Zhongkai to rescue her, and Jun Dai is the one carried off in a box by Han Liao.

A Chou survives the day. Back in her room, Lu Zhuo is waiting and asks who she is.

Why it matters

This is the episode international fans call the nuo dance episode, and it is where Lu Zhuo starts asking directly.
